A Stability Result for Network Reduced Power Systems Using Virtual Friction and Inertia

We prove that virtual friction can stabilize a power grid containing several synchronous machines (VSMs), connecting line impedances and loads. Virtual is torque added to the swing equation of each VSM, proportional deviation its frequency from overall center inertia (COI) frequency. Our analysis based on network reduced system (NRPS) model. support our results with simulations for two-area four VSMs, looking at transients induced by change tie-line impedance an asymmetric load change. compare NRPS model corresponding using detailed models synchronverters impedances. find has strong stabilizing effect both Furthermore we show simulation influence time delays in communication between inverters. This used compute COI It turns out less than 100ms have practically no system.
